Basic First Aid including Life Support Course

Gain vital life-saving skills in our Basic First Aid Course, designed for individuals and companies seeking fundamental first aid knowledge. This course equips participants with the confidence to handle everyday medical situations effectively.

About Course:

This course provides a solid foundation in first aid for those without prior experience. Participants will learn how to respond to common emergencies, administer CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

This course can also be attended as an annual refresher for the EFAW and FAW

Objectives:

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand their responsibilities under first aid legislation.

  • Apply the principles of the three P’s: Preserve life, Prevent worsening, and Promote recovery.

  • Conduct primary and secondary surveys to assess emergency situations.

  • Manage unconscious casualties effectively.

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) correctly.

  • Place individuals in the recovery position appropriately.

  • Recognise and manage choking incidents.

  • Treat wounds, bleeding, burns, and injuries involving foreign objects.

  • Identify and respond to heart attacks, shock, and other common medical conditions.

  • Demonstrate a solid foundation in basic first aid and life-saving techniques in line with current UK guidance.

  • First aid legislation and the three P’s

  • Managing an unconscious casualty
  • Primary and secondary surveys
  • Performing CPR
  • Recovery position
  • Choking casualty response
  • Treating wounds, bleeding, foreign bodies and other common ailments
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Managing burns and scalds
  • Recognising and responding to heart attacks
  • Understanding and treating shock
  • Recording and reporting

Course Requirements:

There are no requirements to attend this course.

Certification:

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an accredited first aid certificate. Certificates are emailed within 2 weeks of course completion, with paper copies available upon request.
